After 2000, many people begin to realize traditional moon cakes are not healthy. Once MaMa-tze came out with Agar-Agar Moon Cakes. Haagen Daz too came out with their ice-cream moon cakes. Quick search, icylifememories blog about it. Believe me, many join the band wagon... let me recall seeing brand such as Sushi King, Starbucks, Baker's Cottage and I remembered there was once S.H.E. too sold it in a very nice packaging in Malaysia/Singapore only. My pal send a whole collection to his SHE-finactic friend in Taiwan.
Let me introduce my readers to my brother-chief-tze, he is a low rank chief in a well known Chinese Restaurant in KL. He is brushing his skills from well known chief in the Chinese Restaurant business, and of-coz his great teacher/student of all time Senior-tze. He made some great moon cakes over the past 2 years, their restaurant was rated on of the best moon cake makers this year. Rated without any awards thou.
Here are some of the homemade moon cakes that my family make, hope you enjoy the pictures as much as I enjoy eating them.
Once bitten on the paste of the snow skin moon cake, there was a rather bouncy texture which taste of sweet & cold candy. Then when the durian spread towards the tongue as of I had a durians instead. Yes, brother-chief-tze uses real durians and cooked with lotus.

Which role was I on the whole process? Taste/Test Rat. Only limited moon cakes was produced and sold only by demand orders.
Somehow or rather I will still enjoy moon cakes with traditional hot chinese tea, with family and friends. Children still light up the lanterns and candles on the porch.
